Flocculants

RoQuest®

Colloid and silt pollution are the main causes of a loss of performance in membrane separation systems. Therefore, many system designs include as pre-processing a wide variety of mechanisms to ensure particle removal. These include multimedia filters, fine filters and ultrafiltration systems. The RoQuest® coagulants neutralize the negative electrostatic charges of the particles and filter media surfaces. The elimination of these charges allows collisions and attachments between particles and media grain surface.

Chemikalien freist Chemikalien

RoQuest®

RoQuest 3000 contains a mixture of organic coagulants and is designed for dosing upstream of multi-media and sand filters in the inlet of a RO system. This product enhances filtration performance by coagulating turbidity and colour. Antiscalant

Vitec®

Due to the high yields of a reverse osmosis plant, the solubility limits of the salts are exceeded in the concentrate. The salts precipitate and form deposits on the membrane surface, the scaling. Frequent scaling deposits are calcium carbonate CaCO3, calcium sulphate CaSO4, barium sulphate BaSO4 and strontium sulphate SrSO4. Less frequent but equally problematic are deposits of silicon dioxide SiO2 and calcium fluoride CaF.

Vitec® offers a range of products that pushes the solubility limits upwards and thus prevents premature scaling. These antiscalants have been developed for a variety of waters, e.g. for the treatment of spring, surface, town and well waters, seawater and process and waste water.

Biocides

RoCide®

The biocides are used to suppress bacteria, micro-organisms and algae indifferently. This can be done by continuous dosing, shock dosing or by a CIP cleaning system. We provide support for the optimization of the most suitable disinfection regimes for the membrane system.

Biological fouling of membrane systems is a major challenge in the operation of such plants. The reason for this is above all the use of effective biocides, which have no oxidizing effect, in order to rule out irreversible damage to the polyamide membrane layer.

RoCide® offers two types of biocides for use in membrane systems: RoCide®DB and RoCide®IS2. Both formulations are non-oxidizing and EPA-registered. They can be safely used in both polyamide and cellulose acetate membranes. However, they are not suitable for in-line feeding in drinking water production or treatment systems. Both have excellent environmental properties and are quickly decomposed in a natural way. Therefore, these chemicals are particularly suitable for systems that are operated in accordance with strict environmental and waste water regulation.

Chemikalien freist Chemikalien

RoCide®

RoCide DB5 is a fast-acting, non-oxidizing biocide based on a 20% solution of the active ingredient DBNPA (dibromo-nitrilopropionamide). RoCide DB5 has an almost immediate antibacterial effect. Thus, this biocide is one of the most cost-effective methods for removing bacteriological contamination.
RoCide®DB5 has excellent environmental properties, as it degrades very quickly and naturally. This property makes it the first choice, especially in systems that are subject to high environmental requirements.

Application:
There are two options when using RoCideDB5 in reverse osmosis applications:

1. Intermittent online feed for "shock treatment":
This method makes it possible to use the biocide only when it is necessary to control fouling. The amount and frequency of dosage should be optimally adapted to the bacterial load in the feed water. An initial dosage of 200mg/l for 1 hour per week is a typical starting point for optimization. The valid regulations must be observed for drinking water applications.

2. Cleaning agent for RO membranes:
RoCide DB5 is generally used in the first cleaning stage. Depending on the degree of fouling, RoCide DB5 is used in a solution of 200-200 mg / l. The solution is circulated through the membranes for 1-3 hours. As RoCide®DB5 is a fast-acting biocide, it is best to add it four times in batches of 200mg/l during the circulation period.

Packaging:
RoCide DB5 is available in 5 kg, 25 kg canisters and 227 kg drums
Information on IBC containers or tank truck deliveries is available on request.

Properties:

Appearance:  clear yellowish liquid
Density:  1.15 bis 1.2 kg/litre
pH:  2,0 to 5,0 (as supplied)

Technical properties::
RoCide DB5 offers a variety of application possibilities:

  • immediate antimicrobial effect against bacteria and organisms
    non-oxidizing
  • inactivates bacteria, fungi and algae
  • compatible with TFC polyamide and cellulose acetate membranes
  • degrades quickly and thus meets strict environmental requirements
  • can be used in combination with other Avista cleaners.

RoClean

RoClean L211 is a liquid, alkaline cleaner with low foaming behaviour. The product has been developed to remove colloidal silicon, clay, organic dyes and bacterial deposits from spirally wound elements. The formulation is temperature stabilized to ensure that the pH is always in the effective range.

Application:

1. Fill the vessel with RO-permeate or DI-water to the desired volume. Add RoClean L211 to the tank. (Max.
dilution 1:50) Heating the solution to 45°C considerably enhances the cleaning effectiveness. Good mixing is achieved by recirculation of the solution through the CIP tank.

2. Recirculation of the cleaning solution through each RO stage, for at least 60 minutes. The recommended volume flows of the membrane manufacturer must be observed. If the volume flows are not known, the following values must be used
[table “” not found /]

3. If the fouling is very strong, if the cleaning solution discolours or becomes turbid, the cleaning solution must be partially or completely discarded. Soaking the elements for up to 8 hours is recommended for difficult cleaning operations.

4. The pH-value must be observed during the cleaning process. If the pH is above pH 10 (45°C) and the solution is not turbid, it can be used again. Otherwise, you have to prepare a new solution and proceed with step 1-4.

5. After completion of the cleaning process, each element is rinsed with ROPermeat. The plant can now be put into operation again.

Dilution:
Normally, RoClean L211 is diluted 1:50 with water. A dilution of 1:100 is sufficient for low fouling.

Packaging:
RoClean L211 is available in 25 kg canisters.

Properties:

Appearance: colourless to amber-coloured
Dichte: 1.05 bis 1.10 kg/litre
pH: 11 to 11.5 at 25°C

AntiChlor 427 liquid is also less prone to air oxidation than equivalent solutions and has a longer shelf life when compared to straight sodium bisulfate solutions.
AntiChlor 427 removes chlorine more effectively than activated carbon and eliminates many of the issues associated with carbon beds, including bacterial growth and carbon fines in downstream feedwaters.

AntiChlor 30 liquid is a dechlorinating agent used as a mild, nonoxidizing
biostat or injected into reverse osmosis (RO) feedwaters to protect polyamide membranes from permanent damage caused by chlorine.
AntiChlor 30 is a 30% (minimum) solution of sodium bisulfite. It is a food-grade reducing agent and is certified by NSF International for use in systems producing drinking water.
